Oman Entry Requirements for UK Travellers

GOV.UK last updated its Oman advice on 27 October 2026. Read the official GOV.UK entry requirements for Oman before you travel.

When I flew into Muscat, I landed at seven in the morning to sunshine, mountains and a spotless airport. Getting through the border is simple if you’ve got your paperwork sorted first. Here’s what you need on a full British citizen passport, summarised from the UK government’s travel advice.

Visa

  • Up to 14 days: you can visit Oman without a visa.
  • Longer than 14 days, or for work or study: you need a visa. GOV.UK advises applying online before you travel, as that lowers the risk of being refused. Tourists should choose the “unsponsored visit visa” option on the Royal Oman Police eVisa site.
  • Visa on arrival: you can also get a visit visa on arrival at an Omani airport, but applying in advance is the safer option.

Passport

  • Your passport must have at least six months left on it from the day you arrive.
  • You’ll be refused entry if your travel document isn’t valid, or if the passport has been reported lost or stolen.
  • Oman doesn’t recognise dual nationality. If you hold both British and Omani passports, one may be confiscated.

What to show at the border

Be ready to show:

  • a return or onward ticket
  • proof of where you’re staying, such as a hotel booking
  • proof of travel health insurance

Don’t overstay

If you stay longer than allowed, you can be fined and detained. GOV.UK says fines can be up to 10 Omani rials a day, up to a maximum of 500 rials.

Health and customs

  • Yellow fever: you need a vaccination certificate if you’re arriving from Rwanda, Tanzania or another country listed as a transmission risk.
  • Customs: the rules are strict. Declare anything that might be prohibited, or that tax or duty is due on.
  • Medicines: some UK prescription and over-the-counter medicines are illegal in Oman. Carry a copy of your prescription, and check with Oman’s Ministry of Health well before you go.

Always check before you book

Rules can change at short notice, so always read the latest GOV.UK entry requirements for Oman before you book anything, and again before you fly. Once you’re in, Oman is a joy. Everyone I met was friendly, and I felt very safe, even walking the side streets at night.
