Hi, I’m Andy Blithe.
I’m a filmmaker, presenter and vlogger based in Devon, originally from Chesterfield in Derbyshire. I got into filmmaking about ten years ago, after an earlier life in the military and the police. Those years taught me to plan properly, pack light and stay calm when things go sideways, and all of that turns out to be very useful on the road.

My travelling began for a reason I didn’t choose. I flew out to India to support my family, and on the way home a few days’ stopover in Qatar gave me my first taste of travelling differently. Since then I’ve filmed my solo series, Blithe in…: first times in new places, cheap eats, local life and the bits the guidebooks miss, all shot and edited with a laptop and a camera bag.
So far that’s taken me to India, Qatar, China, South Korea, Japan, Turkey, Oman, the UAE, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Italy and the Netherlands. One trip covered nine countries in two months for under about £3,000.
Blithe on a Budget is where I share how I do it: finding cheap flights, places to stay that won’t empty your wallet, and kit that earns its place in the bag. Next up: Sofia, Athens, Singapore and Jakarta.
