This privacy policy explains what personal data Blithe on a Budget (blitheonabudget.com) collects, why, and what your rights are. The site is run by Andy Blithe in the United Kingdom. You can contact me about privacy at hello@blitheonabudget.com.
What I collect
- Newsletter sign-ups: if you join the email list, I store your email address (and the date you consented) with my email provider, MailerLite, to send you budget travel guides. You can unsubscribe at any time from any email.
- Messages you send me: if you email me or use a contact form, I keep your name, email and message so I can reply.
- Comments: if comments are open and you leave one, WordPress stores your name, email, website (optional), comment and IP address to fight spam.
- Technical data: like most websites, the hosting provider (Hostinger) keeps server logs such as IP address, browser type and pages visited, for security and to keep the site running.
Cookies
The site uses cookies that are needed for it to work, and may use others only with your consent. Details are in the cookie banner and Cookie Policy, where you can change your choices at any time.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and book or buy something, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. When you click an affiliate link, the partner site (and affiliate networks such as Travelpayouts) may set its own cookies to track the referral. Their own privacy policies apply once you leave this site.
Embedded content
Pages may include embedded content such as videos or maps. Embedded content behaves as if you had visited the other site, which may collect data about you under its own policy.
Why I use your data (legal basis)
- Newsletter: your consent.
- Replying to messages and moderating comments: my legitimate interest in running the site and answering readers.
- Server logs and security: legitimate interest in keeping the site safe.
How long I keep it
Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe. Messages are kept only as long as needed to deal with them. Comments and their metadata are kept while the comment is on the site.
Who I share it with
I don’t sell your data. It is only handled by the services that run the site: Hostinger (hosting) and MailerLite (newsletter). Some of these may process data outside the UK, under safeguards required by UK GDPR.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask to see, correct or delete the personal data I hold about you, object to its use, or withdraw consent at any time. Email hello@blitheonabudget.com. If you’re unhappy with how your data is handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
